Introduction:
Few disorders have garnered more recent attention than traumatic brain injury (TBI). Whether the result of repetitive mild sports concussion, severe injury from a road traffic accident, or as a consequence of severe blast polytrauma from a terrorist attack with an improvised explosive device, the acute and long-term consequences of TBI are of great public interest. The morbidity, mortality, and personal and financial burdens resulting from TBI are enormous, across the injury range.
