Ministerial Guidelines for Light Traumatic Brain Injuries (2005-2010). Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec. (In French)

“Ministerial guidelines for light traumatic brain injuries (TBI)”

The ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and its partner, the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), have joined their efforts to devise a unique approach in Québec. It is with this objective in mind that the following document was prepared.

The aim of this approach is to outline the organisation of the services that need to be put in place in order to improve accessibility, continuity, and quality of the services to this clientele, and to promote greater efficiency. This objective fits perfectly with the approach initiated by the setting up of comprehensive health networks in the entire health and social services sector.

In the present document, section A concerns the parameters of the organisation of services, clinical as well as organisational, for TBIs, whereas section B focuses on the clinical framework. Relying on the most recent, conclusive data and the current state of the practices, five areas that needed improvement were identified: The efficiency of the identification, the assessment of the diagnosis, the assessment of the prognosis, preventive intervention, and the referral of the people with traumatic brain injuries. The implementation of a regional project focused on the continuity of services will help guarantee the correspondence between the identified needs and the services offered.
